I have always traveled in a visual realm and my memories remain a series of linked movies. The images,
textures and colors that continue to fascinate me range from allegorical to literary, the paradoxical and
frequently to political and social issues. I see a wealth of opportunities to integrate many aspects of current
discoveries in the sciences and geometry.
Printmaking offers me the opportunity to achieve a different surface quality than paint while incorporating
the mysteries of technical surprise. The inherent risks of the medium provide the excitement of a mystery revealed.
Based largely on social commentary, my work strives to evoke a core of political satire while pushing the
physical limits of the collagraph to a 3-dimensional format. The last several years have moved me well beyond
traditional edition lithography and intaglio toward individual monotypes and collagraphs. I have found it exhilarating
to combine multiple media, so that some pieces combine attachments through stitching and others the dimension
allowed by metal elements and shaped fabrics and objects.
My art education began with painting, drawing, and sculpture but rapidly found a forum with the opportunities
and myriad surprises of printmaking. My studies began at Syracuse University and took me to California College
of Art, and the University of California. I currently reside outside of Philadelphia. I have continued to study at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
